AIR FORCE RESEARCH LABORATORY

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is heavily involved in drone technology research. AFRL is the primary scientific research and development center for the U.S. Air Force, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) - commonly called drones - represent one of their major research areas. AFRL operates several facilities dedicated to this research, including test ranges and laboratories specifically for unmanned systems development. They also collaborate extensively with defense contractors, universities, and other research institutions on drone technology advancement.
