BEYOND VISUAL LINE OF SIGHT NAVIGATION
Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) navigation refers to drone operations where the aircraft flies beyond the pilot's direct visual range - essentially, the pilot can't see the drone with their own eyes. This represents a significant advancement from traditional Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations and opens up much more practical applications for drones.
The technology faces significant regulatory hurdles in most countries, as aviation authorities require robust safety demonstrations before allowing BVLOS operations in shared airspace. Weather conditions, terrain, and radio interference can also impact system reliability.
