CYBER SECURITY RISKS IN DRONE OPERATIONS
The most fundamental weakness is the communication channel between operator and drone. Most drones rely on radio frequency (RF) links that can be intercepted, jammed, or spoofed. In battlefield scenarios, adversaries can deploy electronic warfare systems to disrupt these communications, potentially causing drones to lose connection, return to base automatically, or crash.
Signal hijacking represents an even more serious threat - attackers can potentially take control of a drone by overpowering the legitimate control signal. This is particularly concerning with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) drones that often lack sophisticated encryption or authentication protocols.
