LONG TERM EVOLUTION (LTE) COMMUNICATION STANDARDS
Based on current developments, LTE communication standards are being enhanced rather than replaced outright, though a gradual transition to 5G is underway. For IoT deployments specifically, LTE-M and Cat 1bis will remain relevant for at least a decade, offering cost-effective solutions before full 5G NR adoption. Mass adoption of 5G RedCap and eRedCap is expected between 2027-2029 as module costs drop and network coverage matures. LTE is being enhanced and will coexist with 5G for many years. The transition is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, driven by spectrum efficiency needs and the maturation of 5G infrastructure, particularly for IoT and mission-critical applications where LTE remains highly capable and cost-effective.LTE000 - LTE Communication Standards - Research
